Hi atom
I don't think that there are any video tutorials for UF,or at least I haven't seen any, and i wouldn't have a clue how to go about it. Dont worry about not understanding UF,I think everyone was like that when they first started. Just give a shout when there is something you aren't sure about and people will be only too willing to help if they can Where would you like to start...........Paul |

Well the main thing i wanted to do was to create those great fractals that look like flowers, at the moment i only seem to be able to get basic julia and mandelbrot's and add a transformation effect like kaleidoscope, the program seems so complex to me at the moment, i get the idea of how to use it (apart from making and saving gradients which i have no idea how to do) but i just can't seem to get decent results for some reason even if i experiment with it for a long time
Edit - for making them theres this program - http://www.techsmith.com/download/trials.asp unfortunately it costs a bit but theres a trial which might work ok for 30 days. :) |

Sorry about the late reply,I had to go out.
Referring to fractals with flowers,if this is what you are looking for:- find a nice julia and use orbit traps (ucl) in the standard folder and select pinch, from there you can select the order ( how many petals) and also use the trap center. Hope this helps...........Paul |

There are some great tutorials here:
http://www.parkenet.org/jp/uftutorials.html And from there, there are lots of learning resource links. The program seems infinite to me--new formulas to be applied to old nearly every week--so it is easy to feel overwhelmed--just dig in and enjoy! |

Thanks for the link
Im probably just really stupid but i choose julia formula, select orbit tracks as inside and outside (which were the only ones i found as ucl) i select pinch and change the center values but it doesn't look anything like a flower. :( |

Ok,
Can you give a link to an image that contains the type of flower you need, and perhaps post an image in parameter sharing that you have done,so I can have a look to see if there is anything wrong............Paul |

Well i don't have anything to show sorry, nothing that looks like a flower anyway, i have seen some stuff on DA i can show you though (not mine), this is the type of thing im aiming for -
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/36865611/ Problem is everything im making is nothing like this :( I think i must be missing steps to get there, maybe if i could see some project files or something to study i could see what im not doing right. |

Wow...nice flowers
You might try to get in contact with Deagol on Rendo,he seems to do some cool stuff involving flowery types.I think he used to be a member of the forum,but I haven't seen any posts lately. Someone will read this thread and point you in the right direction... Meanwhile....have you got to this point with orbit traps,or isn't this what you're looking for Fractal2 { ; ; Tweaks are essential fractal: title="Fractal2" width=640 height=480 layers=1 credits="Paul;11/13/2006" layer: caption="Background" opacity=100 mapping: center=0.3125000000165/0.0125 magn=6.3157895 formula: maxiter=250 filename="Standard.ufm" entry="Julia" p_seed=-0.275/0.80625 p_power=2/0 p_bailout=128 inside: transfer=none outside: transfer=sqrt repeat=no filename="Standard.ucl" entry="OrbitTraps" p_trapshape=pinch p_diameter=1.0 p_traporder=7 p_trapfreq=1.0 p_trapcolor=distance p_traptype=closest p_threshold=0.25 p_trapcenter=-0.7907/-0.53488 p_aspect=1.0 p_angle=0.0 p_solidcolor=no gradient: smooth=yes index=19 color=2511214 index=103 color=16250355 index=218 color=4664086 index=279 color=14277570 index=350 color=7109748 opacity: smooth=no rotation=-40 index=116 opacity=0 index=118 opacity=248 index=204 opacity=255 index=207 opacity=0 index=-40 opacity=0 } |

Open any formula in Uf,the default will do fine, but you can use any
When you have copied all the info from the above post I sent,go to UF and put your mouse curser over your open fractal window, right click your mouse and select paste |
